Welcome to Cornerstone Middle School!

Cornerstone Middle School opened January 6, 2003. This was the same time that the new Upperman High School opened. Cornerstone Middle School combined the 5th and 6th grade students from Baxter Elementary with the 7th and 8th grade students from Upperman High School.

  • May 13 - The Highlands Workforce Development and Education Committee is hosting the Third Annual 8th Grade Career Fair Tuesday, May 13 at Hooper Eblen Center on the campus of Tennessee Tech University from 9 .a.m. until 2:10 p.m. Approximately 1400 eighth grade students from Jackson, Overton, Putnam, and White county schools will be attending. Jackson, Overton, White, and Burks Middle will attend the morning session, scheduled 9:00 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. and Putnam County will attend the afternoon session from 12:00 p.m. to 2:10 p.m.
    The objective of the Highlands Career Fair is to motivate students at a younger age to become career-ready. Students will have the opportunity to interact with professionals from various occupations who will emphasize the importance of completing their education before high school begins. Students can begin to understand the relationship between education level and greater future earnings. During the Highlands Career Fair, students will be visiting booths set-up along the concourse to gather information. An assignment will be provided to motivate students during the event.
    Each student will have the opportunity to select specific guest speakers from various businesses and industry to learn more about certain Career Clusters during part of the Fair. Participating businesses will provide informational materials on their products or services. Students will also be able to find detailed information about the various types of jobs available in each profession as well as specific duties, pay scale and training required.

Cornerstone Middle School Student Safety Plan

Due to the many parent concerns for student safety, all student Drop off/Pick up will be at the Front Awning. Students will no longer be allowed to cross the road or walk into the parking lot areas during high traffic times (7:40 - 8:00 am and 3:00 - 3:20 pm).
