If you visit certain websites, you see phrases such as "If you are 13 years old or younger do not use your actual name. Ask your teacher for a screen name to use". So what's up with that? The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA 15 U.S.C. §§ 6501-6508). And when a teacher hears the phrase "Ask your teacher", there is that reaction of "One more thing to do".

So how about simplifying the process? What if you had a near-endless list of name possibilities and just pick from the list? You might even let the student pick the pseudonym, as long as it protected the child's true identity.

This generator pulls from a list of names (from the U.S. Census) to create a list of 50 male and female names. Note you're never likely to see the same list twice (this is randomly generated), so if you see some good ones, why not copy and past them into another document for future use.

Lastly, you could use this generator to create character names for short story writing.

How Do I Use This?

Pick any name and use any part of it. If the list generates "DEON SPENCER HUGGINS" and you want to just use "DEON HUGGINS" or "SPENCER HUGGINS" it's OK. You could even go by "SPENCE HUGGINS" or even "D.S. HUGGINS". Note: you may want to write down the whole name in case a webform wants a middle initial. If you don't like anything, generate a new set of names and check them out.
