SWPBS - School-Wide Positive Behavior Support Student Training

Creating safe and effective learning environments for all students and staff through direct instruction!

Here is a link to our SWPBS information at edprodevelopment.com.

Why "SWPBS"?

A student who is frequently in the Principal's Office is also a student who is frequently not in the classroom receiving instruction. Sadly, habitual bad behavior and poor classroom performance often go hand-in-hand. The goal of School-Wide Positive Behavior is too motivate students to behave in such a way as to keep them out of the office and in the classroom.

Students who behave as expected at Cornerstone Middle School are able to earn rewards for good behavior. Students can earn "Cornerstone Cash" and "Merit Money" for following the rules and behaving respectfully, responsibly and safely.

the four 'Be's: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe and Be Your Best at CMS

What Can You Do With Cornerstone Cash?

Students can win prizes through weekly drawings. Students can also spend their money in the PBS store to get items they like. And now students can save their Cornerstone Cash to have time in our newly opened Wii Lab.

The Wii Lab

Eleven wall-mounted TVs are hooked to eleven wii consoles, we will also have four mobile units (Wiis and TVs on carts). We currenlty have Wii Sports and Wii Fit for students to play and get active with. Starting in 2010 it will cost students 20 Cornerstone Cash to have a 50-minute session in the Wii Lab.

We have some very excited students who have been anticipating the lab's opening since we announced we were getting a Wii Lab. We look forward to its role in helping us motivate students' good behavior.

Not Sure About What We Expect?

Students are given a brochure (which you can download here) that lists respectful, responsible and safety rules for the various areas in our school (such as classrooms, hallways, the cafeteria, etc.). We also have large and colorful signs posted around school to remind students of these expectations and at the beginning of the school year, we spent two days teaching these rules to all of our students. Students who violate school expectations too many times are given a retraining session.

You Can Help!

If you would like to help support Positive Behavior at CMS, we'd greatly appreciate it. Here is a letter that recently went home.

EdProDevelopment.com is the website of Positive Behavior, and our school has a page at that site as well.
